SIDENOR group was founded in 1962 and is the largest producer of long steel products in Greece and southeastern Europe. The group includes 34 subsidiary companies operating in Greece or foreign countries. In terms of of production facilities, the Group operates production units in Greece, Bulgaria, FYROM and Russia.

The SIDENOR Group applies a perfectly organized and tailored to the needs of the modern steel industry Quality Management System, certified by ISO 9001:2008, which ensures the production of products of consistent high quality.

It is also the first Greek steel industry that applies System for Health and Safety Management in all its activities, in accordance with ELOT 1801:2002 standard and OHSAS 18001:1999.

SIDENOR group with two modern steel production facilities in Greece (SIDENOR in Salonika, SOVEL in Almyros Magnisias) and one in Bulgaria (STOMANA INDUSTRY in Pernik), recycles 2.400.000 tons of scrap per year, turning them into iron products ready for use. SIDENOR group is the largest recycler of scrap in Greece and one of the largest in the Balkans. SIDENOR, SOVEL and STOMANA INDUSTRY apply an Environmental Management System, certified according to ELOT EN ISO 14001:2004.

Benefits from scrap recycling

Steel scrap is the material that is recycled more than any other in the world. Steel can be recycled endlessly without any loss of its properties. In relation to the manufacture of iron from iron ore, recycling one tonof scrap has the following advantages:

· Conservation of 1.8 tn of iron ore

· conserves about 70-75% of the required energy, which is valid everytime steel is recycled

· conserves 0.5 tn of coal

· conserves 40% of water from the production process

In addition to conserving natural resources, the production of one ton of steel from recycled scrap gives about 5% of CO2 emissions, in relation to the manufacture of iron from iron ore.
